Job Opportunities for UMBC Diagnostic Medical Sonography Graduates

Although we don’t offer job placement services or guarantee employment, most graduates of the UMBC Diagnostic Medical Sonography program are offered employment at one of their clinical sites. Also, the UMBC DMSP is one of the first places regional employers contact when seeking to hire qualified candidates. We will share these job opportunities with our graduates.

What Can You Do With a Sonography Certificate?

Depending on which specialty track you complete, you can work in a variety of settings, echo labs, vascular labs, or ultrasound labs in hospitals in outpatient centers.

Management, sales, and education, are pathways that staff sonographers can grow into. With experience, travel or mobile jobs (within the US and abroad) are available.

You can become an “applications specialist” working with an ultrasound machine company’s sales person to demonstrate the machine and its features to potential buyers.

Research projects and journals are also in abundance, especially if you work in a teaching hospital.
