As a CAAHEP-accredited school, our graduates are eligible to sit for the national registry (credentialing) exams. Our mission is to prepare our students for these exams and for their future careers, and to teach them excellence in classroom education, scanning skills, patient care and professionalism.
What Do Sonographers Do?
Sonographers are highly skilled medical professionals who work directly with patients to perform non-invasive imaging tests and procedures, providing physicians with diagnostic information about various systems of the body. Whether detecting a blood clot, evidence of cancer, signs of a cardiovascular disease, or monitoring an infant in the womb, sonographers are key members of a medical team.
There are many excellent online resources to help you research the Sonography profession. We encourage you to start with the Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography.
With UMBC you can count on:
- Clinical partnerships with top hospitals and outpatient centers in the Baltimore metro area
- Outstanding job placements within six months of graduation
- The largest alumni network of ultrasound professionals in the region
